Boost for innovation in Belgian companies
The Belgian government has officially submitted its application to establish a European Commission ‘AI Factory’ on our territory. This was confirmed by Vanessa Matz, secretary of state for digitalisation in the federal De Wever government. If Belgium is selected, it will represent a strategic step forward in digital innovation, with direct benefits for Belgian companies.
What is an AI Factory?
With these initiatives, the European Commission aims to close the gap with AI superpowers such as the US and China. An AI Factory is more than a server room: it is a data centre with specialised AI supercomputers and large-scale data storage, specifically designed to give start-ups and SMEs access to powerful AI infrastructure. This allows companies to develop their own AI models faster or build applications tailored to their processes.
Two previous calls have already approved 13 AI Factories across Europe, each time focusing on the local strengths of the host country. With Belgium as a candidate, that innovative infrastructure may now also be within reach of Flemish entrepreneurs.
