AI is booming within enterprise environments. Yet for many SMEs, it remains unclear what it can do concretely. One of the recent innovations within the Salesforce ecosystem is Agentforce: an AI platform that allows you to build your own digital assistants that perform tasks within your company.

In this blog, we explain exactly what Agentforce is, how it works and what you can do with it as a Flemish SME.

What is Agentforce?

Agentforce is an extension within Salesforce that allows to build so-called autonomous agents. These are AI-driven digital assistants that can perform certain tasks independently. In doing so, they use the data in your CRM, but can also be linked to other systems or data sources.

The AI agents understand context, perform actions, make suggestions and can switch to a human colleague. Everything happens within Salesforce’s secure ecosystem.

What does such an agent look like?

Each AI agent within Agentforce is built based on five properties:

  1. Role: what is the agent’s job? For example, providing support to a sales representative.
  2. Knowledge: what should the agent have information about? Think customer data, product information or emails.
  3. Actions: what actions may the agent perform? For example, making a summary or creating a task.
  4. Channels: through which channel does the agent work? This could be a web page, but also Slack, e-mail or even a phone call.
  5. Boundaries: what are the limits or rules? This keeps control in the hands of your organisation.

What can you do with Agentforce?

Agentforce offers many options, depending on your sector and internal operation. Some examples:

1. Customer service support

AI agents can automatically summarise customer questions, make answer suggestions or provide reusable responses. For complex questions, they automatically switch to a staff member.

2. Summaries and insights

After a customer conversation or meeting, an agent automatically creates a concise summary. Useful for follow-up or reporting.

3. Sales support

Representatives automatically get help from the agent during the sales process: from recognising buying signals to preparing offers.

4. Data interaction

Agentforce can retrieve information from your CRM or linked systems, and display it in understandable language. So you no longer have to search manually in different tables or screens.

5. Process automation

Agents can perform certain actions independently. Think of automatically creating tasks, following up on requests or providing insights to internal reports.

Who is Agentforce relevant to?

Agentforce is especially useful for companies that already work with Salesforce and have processes that require employees to regularly look up, record or communicate data with customers. Typical users are:

  • Customer service teams
  • Sales staff
  • Marketing departments
  • Administrative profiles

What do you need to get started with it?

To use Agentforce, you need a Salesforce environment in which AI functionalities can be activated. You also need to think carefully about the role and operation of agents: what data are they allowed to use, what are they allowed to do or not do, and how do they cooperate with employees?

Good preparation is crucial. This is why many companies start small, for example with an agent summarising meetings, to expand later.
